The Player (Punto) plays against the banker (Banco) to see who gets cards scoring closest to nine. That is why Baccarat is also called Punto Banco. Punto can bet on Punto or Banco results but Banco can only bet on his/her own results. Card dealing stays with the same player as long as Banco keeps winning: otherwise it is passed to the next player. Players who have the Banco role pay 5% in commission to the casino.
How to play
• The dealer gives a player two cards and holds another two for himself. Both parties check who comes closest to nine.
• The one closest to nine points wins, but in the case of a draw there is a re-deal.
• A player who scores an 8 or 9 has a 'Natural'. If a player has low points, he or she may be able to get a third card from the casino.
Rules
1) Baccarat uses only low value cards up to 9. An Ace scores 1 and not 11.
2) There is not relevance here for card suits. 3) If the total point value of the cards goes to two figures, then only the right-hand figure is used: so 14 becomes 4.
